Trina Solar Teams Up With Energy China ZTPC And AMEA Power To Launch 300MWh Energy Storage Solution For Abydos Solar PV Project In Egypt

Trina Solar, a global leader in smart photovoltaic (PV) and energy storage solutions, has announced a new partnership with AMEA Power. As part of this collaboration, Trinasolar will provide its advanced Elementa 2 platform (5MWh) for the 300MWh Abydos Battery Energy Storage Project in Aswan, Egypt. This project is a significant milestone, as it is the largest solar energy initiative in Africa and Egypt’s first to include a large-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).

The Abydos Solar PV Project, developed by AMEA Power, is an expansion of the existing 500MW Abydos Solar Power Plant in Kom Ombo, Aswan Governorate. The addition of the 300MWh BESS highlights Egypt’s dedication to sustainable energy and enhancing the country’s energy resilience.The opening ceremony for the 500MW Abydos Solar Power Plant, organized by AMEA Power, was attended by prominent officials, including Egypt’s Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly and the Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, along with Trina Solar’s executives.

Abydos marks Trina Solar’s first energy storage project in the Middle East and Africa (MEA), making it a key achievement for both the company and the region. This project underscores Trina Solar’s commitment to expanding its presence in the MEA market. Vincent Wu, Global Sales VP & MEA MU Head at Trina Solar, emphasized the importance of this milestone, stating, “This groundbreaking project highlights Trina Solar’s vital role in driving innovation, ensuring safety, and supporting the region’s transition to a more sustainable and dependable energy future. The Elementa 2 platform (5MWh) deployed at Abydos features Trina Solar’s own vertically integrated LFP cells, offering a state-of-the-art grid-scale battery storage system designed for efficiency, safety, and reliability. Its advanced module design increases energy density and ensures compatibility with various PCS systems. The system also includes smart liquid cooling technology for precise thermal management and comprehensive safety features such as advanced fire mitigation and suppression capabilities. Built for flexibility, efficiency, and cost-effective maintenance, the Elementa 2 platform enhances performance while reducing project costs.
