U.S. Pauses All Military Aid to Ukraine

The White House has suspended all military aid to the Ukrainian government following the Friday spat between the two heads of state, media have reported, citing unnamed sources close to the U.S. president as saying the move aimed to prompt a demonstration of good faith from the Ukrainian side.

“President Trump has been clear that he is focused on peace. We need our partners to be committed to that goal as well. We are pausing and reviewing our aid to ensure that it is contributing to a solution,” an unnamed White House official told Reuters.

Bloomberg quoted another unnamed official, from the Department of Defense, as saying that the order for suspension of all military aid concerned all military equipment not currently in Ukraine, “including weapons in transit on aircraft and ships or waiting in transit areas in Poland,” Bloomberg wrote. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has been tasked with executing the pause.

On Friday, at talks in the White House that were supposed to end with the signing of a deal for the joint exploitation of Ukrainian mineral resources, presidents Trump and Zelensky, along with Vice President Vance engaged in a heated exchange concerning Zelensky’s conduct to his hosts and the absent demonstration of gratitude for the support that the U.S. has been providing to the Ukrainian government for years. What seemed to particularly inflame the hosts was President Zelensky’s claim that since 2022, the Ukrainians had been “alone”.

Following that Friday meeting, which ended abruptly and without a deal on mineral exploitation, Zelensky flew to London for an emergency meeting with European leaders who reiterated their commitment to continuing their support for the war, while they discussed possible peace plans scenario to present to President Trump. Trump has given European leaders three weeks to come up with a workable plan.
