As the CO2 industry moves beyond traditional sources, understanding the risks associated with new supply will become increasingly important.
Speaking to gasworld at the North American CO2 Summit 2026, Sieg Mueller, Founder and CEO at Analytical Science & Technologies Group, discussed how the industry can assess and de-risk emerging CO2 sources and identify potential contaminants.
Mueller outlines a four-step approach to bringing new sources into the market: identifying the risks, mitigating those risks, monitoring them over time and finally certifying the CO2 for use.
One of the challenges highlighted was identifying contaminants that may not feature in the existing supply mix. With new sources including biodigesters and landfill gas entering the CO2 supply chain, Mueller explains how newer analytical techniques are revealing compounds that traditional testing may not have identified.
The conversation also delves into the importance of customer confidence as the industry brings these alternative sources online.
