Semiconductor components manufacturer Xycarb Technology has secured a $3.9m Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund grant to expand its Georgetown production facility in Texas.
The expansion represents more than $42m. The buildout will double the facility’s footprint, as well as increase production and cleanroom space.
Xycarb Technology manufactures and services high-purity consumable components used in semiconductor manufacturing equipment at the facility, including silicon carbide (SiC)-coated graphite components, advanced technical ceramics, and wafer-processing chamber components.
Silicon carbide (SiC)-coated components used in semiconductor wafer processing require highly controlled fabrication environments, including the use of specialty process gases and ultra-high-purity conditions.
Governor Abbott said the announcement will strengthen the supply chain and semiconductor manufacturers in Texas as the US looks to onshore more production.
“The funding will not only expand our production and engineering facilities but also reconfirms Texas’ position as a key region for specialised companies providing a sustainable economic outlook for the national semiconductor industry,” he said.
The 2023 Texas CHIPS Act established the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund (TSIF) and the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Consortium (TSIC) to support semiconductor development in the state.
