Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) Chairperson and CEO Atty. Monalisa Dimalanta has called on the Philippine energy sector to integrate emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) with a strong foundation of purpose, values, and accountability.

Speaking at the MERALCO Power Academy’s Giga Summit 2025, themed “The Fusion of Power and Intelligence,” Dimalanta emphasized that while AI offers immense potential to assist and modernize the energy landscape, it must never become a replacement for leadership or a means to evade responsibility.

“AI must be Assistive, Accountable, and Upgrading,” Dimalanta said, addressing industry leaders and innovators gathered in Makati City. She stressed that as the sector advances its modernization efforts, particularly in addressing long-standing legacy challenges, stakeholders must remain conscious of the broader consequences of their decisions.

“If we hold the future of energy in our hands, we must be mindful of the impact of those decisions — not just for the communities we serve today, but for future generations,” Dimalanta stated. She further urged the industry to ensure that any authority delegated to AI-driven systems maintains clear lines of human accountability.

The ERC Chief’s remarks come at a critical time as the Philippine energy sector accelerates its shift towards digital transformation to improve efficiency, reliability, and sustainability. Her call underscores the importance of ethical governance as new technologies reshape traditional energy operations.
