NTPC Appoints Diwakar Nath Misra As Government Nominee Director To Its Board

NTPC Limited has announced the appointment of Shri Diwakar Nath Misra as a Government Nominee Director on its Board, following an official order issued by the Ministry of Power on October 19, 2026. Misra currently serves as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Power and will represent the government on the board of the state-owned power generation company.

The appointment has been made by the President of India through an official order issued by the Ministry of Power. According to the company’s disclosure, Misra will continue as a Government Nominee Director until the completion of his tenure in the Ministry of Power or until further orders are issued, whichever occurs earlier. The appointment reflects the government’s role in the board-level oversight of public sector enterprises operating in the power sector.

Following the announcement, NTPC Limited has initiated the necessary procedures and formalities to complete the appointment in accordance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements. The company is undertaking the process under the provisions of the Companies Act, 2013, and the relevant listing regulations governing publicly listed entities in India.

NTPC has also indicated that the required statutory disclosures related to the appointment will be submitted in due course. These formalities are part of the company’s compliance obligations for changes in board composition and other significant corporate developments.

As a major public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Power, NTPC plays an important role in India’s electricity generation sector. The company has an extensive portfolio of power generation assets and is also expanding its presence in renewable energy, including solar and other clean energy projects. Its broader strategy includes supporting India’s growing electricity demand while contributing to the country’s energy transition objectives.

The appointment of a senior Ministry of Power official to NTPC’s board provides government representation in the company’s corporate governance structure. Government nominee directors generally participate in board-level oversight and contribute to aligning a public sector company’s operations with broader policy priorities.

The appointment will take effect in accordance with the official order and applicable corporate procedures. NTPC is expected to complete the necessary documentation and regulatory disclosures as required under the relevant laws and listing requirements.
