APERC Introduces 2024 Regulation For Demand Side Management In Andhra Pradesh To Enhance Energy Efficiency

The Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) has introduced Regulation No. 7 of 2024, marking a significant step toward implementing Demand Side Management (DSM) strategies within the state’s energy sector. This regulation, published as part of the Andhra Pradesh Gazette on November 27, 2024, reflects the state’s commitment to enhancing energy efficiency, optimizing power usage, and promoting sustainable practices across consumer categories.

Demand Side Management refers to strategies designed to manage consumer demand for electricity, ensuring efficient use of energy resources and reducing wastage. With the growing need for sustainable energy solutions and the increasing strain on energy infrastructure, DSM has emerged as a key focus area for policymakers. The regulation outlines a structured framework for adopting these practices, with a focus on encouraging utilities and consumers to work collaboratively toward achieving energy efficiency.

The regulation lays the groundwork for utilities to design and implement DSM initiatives tailored to specific consumer groups, such as residential, commercial, and industrial users. These programs aim to balance energy demand with supply capabilities, particularly during peak hours, to avoid overburdening the grid.
