CarbonQuest to roll out CO2 recycling plant for US beverage customer

US carbon capture technology firm CarbonQuest has entered the food and beverage market, with a new initiative underway in its home US state of Washington.

CarbonQuest has partnered with its first beverage customer on a plant that will capture approximately 22,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide over a 15-year period and purify it to beverage-grade standards mandated by the International Society of Beverage Technologists (ISBT).

The plant will utilise CarbonQuest’s point-source carbon capture and reuse system – which it calls Distributed Carbon Capture – which recycles CO2 from customer facilities to meet or supplement their CO2 needs.

In most of the US, CO2 is hauled over long distances, generating additional emissions. It is typically sourced from ethanol, gas refining, or ammonia facilities. CarbonQuest’s plant captures CO2 locally, which helps to reduce transportation-related emissions.
