JA Solar Supplies High-Efficiency Modules to Zambia’s Largest PV Project

JA Solar, a trusted partner in global green energy, played an integral role in electrifying Zambia’s largest standalone photovoltaic installation, the 100MW Kabwe solar power plant. Exclusively equipped with JA Solar’s high-efficiency DeepBlue 4.0 Pro modules, the project showcases DeepBlue’s reliable performance under Zambia’s challenging climate, which is marked by high temperatures and alternating wet and dry seasons.

Constructed by PowerChina, the Kabwe plant is a major step forward in Zambia’s renewable energy development. At the inauguration ceremony, President Hakainde Hichilema emphasized how the project advances the national goal of achieving 1,000MW of installed solar capacity.

Located in Central Province, a region historically affected by electricity shortages, the plant is expected to generate approximately 180 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually. This output will help meet the power needs of around 150,000 households and reduce the region’s electricity deficit by up to 30%.

The deployment of JA Solar’s DeepBlue 4.0 Pro modules ensures long-term operational stability and high energy yield. Proven performance in harsh environments contributes to the reliability of Zambia’s energy infrastructure and supports the country’s transition to low-carbon power generation.

Beyond its technical impact, the Kabwe project is delivering tangible socioeconomic benefits. More than 1,300 local jobs were created during construction, and expanded access to electricity should stimulate industrial, agricultural, and mining development in the region.

Building on the success of the 33MW Riverside solar plant commissioned in 2023– also powered by JA Solar modules– the Kabwe installation reinforces market confidence in the DeepBlue series and its suitability for diverse operating environments.

“We are honored to support Zambia’s clean energy development through the Kabwe project,” said Aiqing Yang, Executive President of JA Solar. “Their trust in our solutions reflects our commitment to delivering high-efficiency, high-reliability technologies tailored to regional needs. We are focused on creating long-term value for our partners and the communities they serve.”

In 2025, JA Solar received multiple industry accolades, including “Top Brand PV Africa” by EUPD Research, “Overall Highest Achiever” by the Renewable Energy Test Center (RETC), and “Top Performer” in PVEL’s PV Module Reliability Scorecard. These honors underscore JA Solar’s leadership in product excellence and technological innovation.

As Zambia works to diversify its energy mix and strengthen grid stability, the Kabwe project marks a key milestone in the country’s renewable energy journey. JA Solar’s high efficiency modules, adapted to local conditions, show the value of scenario-based solutions in real world applications. JA Solar is committed to support clean energy growth across Africa with reliable products for diverse installation environments.
