JA Solar Becomes First in PV Industry to Receive TÜV Rheinland Certification for Power Measurement Precision

JA Solar’s Shanghai R&D laboratory has become the first in the global photovoltaic (PV) industry to receive TÜV Rheinland’s certification for power measurement uncertainty in solar cells. This achievement establishes a new international benchmark for accuracy and reliability in PV testing, underscoring JA Solar’s leadership in solar cell performance evaluation.

The certification, awarded by TÜV Rheinland—a globally recognized authority in testing, inspection, and certification—was based on a rigorous assessment conducted under IEC standards. The evaluation covered equipment performance, measurement protocols, quality management systems, and staff expertise under standard test conditions (STC).

JA Solar’s lab achieved a maximum power measurement uncertainty of less than 2% (k=2), positioning it among the world’s most precise PV testing facilities. This level of precision has far-reaching implications across the solar value chain.

In research and development, low measurement uncertainty ensures more accurate evaluation of new materials, cell designs, and production methods, accelerating innovation and supporting sound decision-making. In manufacturing, it enables precise product classification, better material utilization, and stronger performance assurance, leading to improved efficiency and competitiveness. “Measurement precision is fundamental to technological progress and commercial trust in the solar industry,” said Aiqing Yang, Executive President of JA Solar. “This certification reflects our long-standing commitment to rigorous quality standards and our role in shaping a more reliable and efficient photovoltaic ecosystem.”
