Acorn Bioenergy opens AD facility in UK for biomethane and CO2

Acorn Bioenergy has opened an anaerobic digestion site in Winchester, southern England.

The Three Maids Hill site is described as a ‘flagship’ project, with the launch attended by representatives from the government’s Department for Energy Security and Net Zero and other stakeholders.

Designed to process 83,600 tonnes of agricultural residues, local agri-waste and break crops annually, the facility will produce more than 120 GWh of biomethane per year.

Sarah Jones, Minister for Industry, said, “Biomethane can play an important role in reducing our reliance on imported fossil fuels, boosting our energy security and helping us accelerate to Net Zero.”
