Founder Group Limited has entered into a Heads of Agreement with Planet QEOS Sdn. Bhd. to jointly develop a large-scale renewable energy project in Sarawak, Malaysia, valued at up to RM1.16 billion (USD 276 million). The project is part of the Baram DeepTech Energy Programme and is expected to become one of the most significant clean energy developments in the region.

The plan includes building a 310 MWp ground-mounted solar photovoltaic power plant along with a 620 MWh Battery Energy Storage System. Together, these will create Malaysia’s first “firm” solar power plant, designed to provide reliable, continuous renewable electricity similar to traditional gas and hydropower. This development marks an important step in Malaysia’s journey to expand its clean energy capacity while ensuring stability and efficiency.

In addition to the solar and storage facilities, the FGL-led consortium will develop a 200 MW Tier-4 Green Data Centre Park on 350 acres in Baram. The data centre will operate on the clean power generated by the solar project and is projected to bring in more than RM1 billion in foreign direct investment. This is expected to strengthen the region’s digital economy by establishing sustainable infrastructure to support growing technology and data demands.

The project directly supports Sarawak’s vision of becoming the “Battery of ASEAN” and a leading exporter of clean energy. It also contributes to the state’s target of achieving 10 GW of generation capacity by 2030. At the same time, the initiative will promote industrial growth and rural development through the Baram Special Energy Zone.

According to Lee Seng Chi, Chief Executive Officer of Founder Group Limited, this collaboration reflects the company’s commitment to delivering large-scale infrastructure projects with long-term economic and environmental benefits. He explained that by combining 310 MWp of firm solar power with a 620 MWh storage system, the project not only addresses the rising demand for renewable energy but also enables the creation of a major green data centre park, positioning Sarawak as a frontrunner in ASEAN’s transition toward clean and digital energy solutions.
