Danish firm buys its first UK biogas plant as national closure risk looms

Denmark-based Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has acquired its first biogas plant in the UK after making a final investment decision with Ørsted, a Danish renewable energy company.

The new owner plans to turn the site from a combined pre-treatment facility and biogas plant into a pure biogas plant. It aims to add a new anaerobic digester, biomethane upgrading units and carbon capture technology.

This will allow CIP to produce both biomethane and liquid biogenic carbon dioxide.

“The upgraded plant will make a meaningful contribution to local energy security while driving growth and job creation,” said Andreas Brandt, Partner at CIP.
