India Accelerates Net Zero 2070 Vision: SECI and NHAI Ink Landmark MoU to Power Delhi–Saharanpur–Dehradun Highway with Solar Energy

In a major stride towards India’s Net Zero 2070 goal and the promotion of sustainable infrastructure, the Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to install solar power plants along the elevated portion of Package-1 (Delhi portion) of the Delhi–Saharanpur–Dehradun Highway (NH-709B) under Phase-1.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Minister of State for Corporate Affairs and Road Transport and Highways, Shri Harsh Malhotra, along with Shri V. Umashankar, Secretary, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), and Shri Sanjay Sharma, Director, SECI Ltd.

The agreement marks a pioneering effort to integrate renewable energy generation with highway infrastructure, aiming to utilize solar potential to power highway operations and significantly reduce carbon emissions.

Speaking at the event, Shri Harsh Malhotra emphasized that the partnership reinforces the government’s commitment to sustainable development and innovative green infrastructure. He noted that the project will help lower greenhouse gas emissions, promote cleaner energy adoption, and serve as a model for future infrastructure initiatives.

“This collaboration between SECI and NHAI reflects our shared vision for a sustainable future and aligns with the government’s broader mission of promoting renewable energy and reducing the carbon footprint across the country,” the Minister stated.
