Songyuan green hydrogen-ammonia-methanol project begins operations in China

China Energy Engineering Group (CEEC) has begun operating a large-scale green hydrogen-based ammonia and methanol project in Songyuan, China.

The first phase of the project reportedly has a planned annual output of 45,000 tonnes of green hydrogen, and 200,000 tonnes of green ammonia and methanol. H2 View understands this makes it the largest project of its kind globally.

Local reports said the site also features the world’s largest ground-based hydrogen storage project, which can help balance variable renewable power.

The Songyuan project has also secured international sustainability certification under the ISCC EU and has signed a supply agreement for green ammonia as a marine fuel.
