ADNOC, the national oil company of the United Arab Emirates, on Wednesday announced the final investment decision for the SARB Deep Gas Development offshore Abu Dhabi, a key part of the massive Ghasha Concession development.
ADNOC and the UAE are looking to maximize natural gas extraction and processing to boost domestic supply and increase LNG exports.
SARB, located 120 kilometers (75 miles) offshore Abu Dhabi, will include a new offshore platform with four gas production wells connecting to Das Island. From there, gas from SARB would be tied into ADNOC Gas facilities for upstream treatment, ADNOC said.
SARB is expected to deliver 200 million standard cubic feet per day (scfd) of gas before the end of the decade, enough energy to power more than 300,000 homes daily.
The project will use advanced technologies and AI and will be operated remotely from Arzanah Island, using existing infrastructure to maximize efficiency and enhance safety, according to ADNOC.
“This strategic project within the Ghasha Concession reinforces the progress we are making to fully unlock Abu Dhabi’s world-class gas resources, supporting UAE gas self-sufficiency and strengthening the nation’s role as a reliable exporter to international markets,” said Musabbeh Al Kaabi, ADNOC Upstream CEO.
ADNOC’s Ghasha Concession is a cornerstone of its integrated gas strategy and includes Hail and Ghasha, the world’s first gas development aiming to operate with net-zero emissions.
Last month, ADNOC signed a landmark structured financing transaction of up to $11 billion to support the development of the Hail and Ghasha project, reinforcing the company’s push to scale gas output while deploying innovative funding models.
Hail and Ghasha are part of the wider Ghasha Concession offshore Abu Dhabi, which is expected to deliver around 1.8 billion standard cubic feet per day of gas at plateau. The project is central to ADNOC’s gas growth strategy and the UAE’s ambition to strengthen domestic gas supply while reducing reliance on imports.
