Rays Power Infra Wins 200 MW RTC Renewable Energy Project For Indian Railways

Rays Power Infra Limited has secured a major contract to develop a 200 MW round-the-clock (RTC) renewable energy project for Indian Railways, marking a significant step in the country’s clean energy transition. The project, to be managed through the Railways Energy Management Company Limited, is expected to add nearly ₹5,000 crore to the company’s order book. It will be executed by Bhalki Solar Power Private Limited, a subsidiary of Rays Power Infra.

The project is designed to ensure a continuous and reliable supply of green power by adopting a hybrid renewable energy model. This model will combine more than 700 MW of solar and wind capacity along with a large battery energy storage system (BESS) of over 1,000 MWh. The integration of these technologies will help address the intermittency associated with renewable energy sources, ensuring power availability even during periods of low sunlight or wind.

A key aspect of the project is the company’s focus on using its internal capabilities. Rays Power Infra plans to source solar modules from its upcoming manufacturing facility in Madhya Pradesh. In addition, the company will utilize its own solar and wind parks for project execution. This approach is expected to improve cost efficiency and make better use of existing power evacuation infrastructure.

The project is scheduled for completion by June 2028 and reflects a broader industry trend toward firm and dispatchable renewable energy solutions. Company officials highlighted that the use of co-located hybrid sites allows for optimized energy generation and competitive pricing. The RTC model is also expected to improve grid stability while reducing Indian Railways’ reliance on conventional fossil fuel-based power.

Beyond railways, the project demonstrates a scalable model for other sectors that require uninterrupted power supply. Industries such as green hydrogen production and data centers could benefit from similar hybrid renewable solutions supported by energy storage systems.
