A working delegation from the Quang Tri Provincial Party Committee and People’s Committee, led by Nguyen Van Phuong, held a meeting with Vietnam Electricity (EVN) in Hanoi on April 9, 2026, to assess the progress of power generation and grid infrastructure projects and address key implementation challenges.

The meeting focused on accelerating project timelines while resolving issues related to land clearance, legal procedures, and investment capital to ensure a stable electricity supply for the province’s socio-economic development.

EVN Chairman Dang Hoang An noted that Quang Tri Province’s total installed power capacity has reached approximately 1,555 MW, with wind energy contributing over 1,100 MW, forming a strong foundation for regional energy growth. He emphasized the need for synchronized investment in transmission infrastructure to efficiently evacuate generated capacity and avoid resource underutilization.

EVN highlighted ongoing developments in major power projects, including the Quang Trach 1 Thermal Power Plant, which has achieved over 98% completion and is expected to begin commercial operations in 2026. The Quang Trach 2 LNG project has progressed with the signing of its EPC contract and is targeting operations by 2030, while investment procedures for the Quang Trach 3 LNG project are currently underway.

On the transmission side, EVN is advancing key infrastructure such as the Quang Tri 2 500 kV switching station and the Lao Bao 500 kV substation, along with associated transmission lines. However, challenges persist, particularly in land acquisition, forest land conversion, and site clearance processes.

During the discussion, EVN Deputy General Director Nguyen Tai Anh pointed out that while project preparation has largely been completed, capital mobilization remains a significant hurdle, especially as international financing for thermal power projects becomes increasingly constrained. EVN is exploring diversified funding strategies and partnerships, while also studying advanced, environmentally compliant technologies for future developments.

Quang Tri Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Van Phuong acknowledged EVN’s role in ensuring reliable power supply and supporting the province’s economic growth. He noted that rising energy demand, driven by ambitious development targets, necessitates the timely execution of large-scale power projects and further investment in grid infrastructure to integrate renewable energy sources.

The provincial leadership reaffirmed its commitment to supporting EVN through land allocation, site clearance, and streamlined procedures to facilitate project implementation.

Concluding the meeting, EVN Chairman Dang Hoang An reiterated that addressing financing constraints and accelerating infrastructure development remain top priorities. He added that EVN is actively working to diversify the energy mix and strengthen energy security, while coordinating with authorities to resolve bottlenecks and advance both conventional and renewable energy projects in the region.
