Linde subsidiary White Martins has brought a 5MW green hydrogen plant online, adjacent to an industrial gas facility in Brazil.
The pressurised alkaline electrolyser facility in Jacareí, São Paulo, will supply green hydrogen for a local glass manufacturer and sectors including metallurgy, chemicals, and food. It has been built near an existing air separation unit.
Having gone live one year after its planned 2025 start-up, it is White Martins’ second green hydrogen project in the country and brings the Rio de Janeiro-headquartered company’s overall capacity to 10MW.
Its first plant, in Pernambuco, was launched in 2022.
Brazil’s capacity for green hydrogen production remains at a relatively early stage. However, a recent ramp-up – primarily eyeing export – has seen projects planned across green reduced iron, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), and green ammonia.
While the country’s domestic demand remains secondary, there is room for decarbonising vast consumption in the refining and fertiliser sectors, which remain almost entirely grey hydrogen-based.
Recently, a Brazilian duo on a Brazil-Europe hydrogen-based green iron supply chain.
In February, Brazilian state-owned petroleum firm Petrobras advanced a in the country, selecting Topsoe’s technology to synthesise its fuels.
