Industrial gases major Air Liquide is to explore new investment opportunities in Egypt after a delegation held talks with Egyptian ministers.

Khaled Hashem, Minister of Industry, said the localisation of industrial gas production is a “priority” to support strategic industries. The Air Liquide delegation was headed by Nicola Poirot, CEO for Africa, Middle East, India and Kazakhastan region.

Air Liquide currently operates 15 production sites across Egypt, serving more than 800 clients across various industrial sectors, and has already made investments exceeding €100m.

Egypt is keen to develop new technologies to enhance energy efficiency and emissions reduction.

Dr Farid confirmed that it has stakeholders ready “to provide the necessary facilities to implement new projects”.

The Minister called for a study of the feasibility of manufacturing gas cooling units locally, especially those used in natural gas extraction companies, which would contribute to value-addition and reduce reliance on imports.

Poirot confirmed that the company views the Egyptian market as one of the promising markets in the region.

General Manger Brian Chetty confirmed the company’ s interest in expanding its hydrogen and energy projects in the Egyptian market.
