Neoen Activates Major Solar Farm In Australia With Large Battery Storage Expansion Planned

Neoen, a leading renewable energy developer, has taken a major step forward in Australia’s clean energy transition by powering up one of the country’s largest solar farms. The project marks another milestone in the company’s growing portfolio of large-scale solar and battery developments across the National Electricity Market.

The solar facility is part of a wider renewable energy hub designed to supply clean electricity to the grid while also improving stability through future battery storage integration. With the commissioning of the solar farm, electricity generation from the site has now begun feeding into the national grid, supporting both households and industries with renewable power.

This development is significant because it is not just a standalone solar project. Neoen is also planning a large co-located battery system at the same site. The battery will be built to store excess solar energy produced during the day and release it during peak demand hours in the evening or when solar output is low. This combination of solar generation and energy storage is increasingly seen as essential for maintaining a reliable and flexible electricity system as more coal-fired power plants retire.

The co-located battery is expected to be one of the major storage installations in the region once completed. It will help smooth out fluctuations in renewable energy supply, strengthen grid security, and reduce dependence on fossil fuel-based peaking power plants. This type of hybrid renewable setup also improves the economic performance of solar farms by allowing stored electricity to be sold when market prices are higher.

Neoen has been steadily expanding its presence in Australia with multiple wind, solar, and battery projects. The company has already developed some of the country’s most well-known large-scale batteries and solar farms, and this latest project further strengthens its position in the renewable energy sector.

Industry experts view such co-located projects as an important step in Australia’s energy transition. By combining solar generation with battery storage at a single site, developers can deliver more consistent clean energy while reducing pressure on transmission infrastructure.

As construction and expansion continue, the solar farm and its upcoming battery system are expected to play a key role in supporting Australia’s renewable energy targets and reducing carbon emissions over the coming years.
