Vikram Solar has projected that India’s Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) solar market could expand to 20–25 GW by FY2026-27, reflecting growing momentum in the country’s domestic solar manufacturing ecosystem and renewable energy sector.
The projection comes amid increasing government focus on localization, energy security, and reducing dependence on imported solar equipment through various policy measures aimed at strengthening India’s clean energy supply chain.
Industry experts note that the DCR segment, which mandates the use of domestically manufactured solar cells and modules in specific projects, is witnessing rapid growth due to rising renewable energy installations, government-backed procurement programs, and supportive manufacturing incentives.
According to market estimates, the anticipated expansion of the DCR market is expected to create significant opportunities for Indian solar manufacturers as demand for domestically produced solar modules and cells continues to increase across utility-scale, rooftop, and commercial & industrial (C&I) solar projects.
The growth outlook is also supported by policy initiatives such as the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM), Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes, and customs duties on imported solar equipment, all of which are aimed at accelerating local manufacturing capabilities.
Industry observers believe that the rapid scaling of India’s domestic solar manufacturing sector is transforming the country from an import-dependent solar market into a major renewable energy manufacturing hub.
The expected growth in DCR demand is also likely to encourage further investments in backward integration across the solar value chain, including solar cells, wafers, modules, and energy storage technologies.
Vikram Solar has been expanding its manufacturing footprint as part of broader industry efforts to strengthen India’s integrated renewable energy manufacturing ecosystem and support the country’s long-term clean energy transition goals.
Analysts further note that the expansion of rooftop solar, open-access projects, and commercial & industrial renewable energy demand is expected to remain a major driver for DCR-compliant solar equipment over the coming years.
The development highlights the growing alignment between India’s renewable energy targets, industrial policy initiatives, and domestic manufacturing ambitions as the country accelerates efforts to build a self-reliant clean energy ecosystem.
