Port of Rotterdam’s 32km hydrogen pipeline to open this week

The Port of Rotterdam’s 32km hydrogen pipeline network will be opened on Wednesday (20 May), forming the first segment of the Dutch hydrogen backbone.

Boudewijn Siemons, CEO of the Port of Rotterdam, said King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands would officially launch the pipeline on Wednesday.

Constructed in Rotterdam’s Maasvlakte area of the Europort, the section will link Shell’s 200MW Holland Hydrogen I green hydrogen project, Air Liquide’s green hydrogen plant, with offtakers across the port.

It’s unclear where hydrogen will be sourced to fill the network before the projects come online.
