Oman is likely to export its first green hydrogen-based ammonia to Europe by next year, the Sultanate’s energy minister has said, but called for industry-wide efforts to reduce costs.
Salim Al Aufi told the World Hydrogen Summit in Rotterdam that renewables firm Acme Group would be the first project in Oman to ship green ammonia from its project.
Awarded land in the Sultanate’s first green hydrogen production auction, the project in Duqm will supply ammonia to fertiliser major Yara, and could be scaled to produce 1.2 million tonnes per year in subsequent phases.
Al Aufi said, “This time next year, we’re probably going to be exporting…the first green ammonia from Oman,” adding that it would likely be transported by an ammonia-powered vessel.
