Top Stories Of The Day: ALMM-II: Which Solar Projects Qualify for Protection — and Why & More…

MNRE’s recent notification reflects a balanced policy approach aimed at protecting both India’s domestic solar manufacturing ambitions and the interests of ongoing renewable energy projects. Although the ministry declined to provide a blanket extension beyond 1 June 2026, it introduced a case-by-case exemption mechanism for projects that had already achieved substantial progress before the deadline.

  • Modules Already Installed Indicates advanced physical execution of the project. Prevents wastage of installed infrastructure and sunk investments.
  • Land Acquisition Completed Demonstrates serious project intent and long-term commitment. Land procurement involves significant financial and regulatory effort.
  • Financial Closure Achieved Confirms lender and investor confidence in the project. Protects developers from financial stress due to sudden policy changes.
  • Connectivity Approval Obtained Shows the project has crossed critical regulatory and utility approvals. Indicates readiness for grid integration and power evacuation.
  • Modules Delivered to Site Reflects prior procurement and logistics investments already incurred. Avoids losses arising from stranded inventory and delayed commissioning.

Through these exemptions, MNRE aims to ensure that genuine projects are not unfairly impacted while simultaneously promoting domestic manufacturing under the Make in India initiative. The policy therefore represents a compromise between industrial self-reliance and maintaining momentum in India’s renewable energy expansion.

ACME Solar Holdings Limited has signed a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) for a 300 MW Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) project. The agreement highlights growing momentum in round-the-clock renewable solutions integrating solar, wind, and storage. The long-term contract is expected to strengthen grid reliability while supporting India’s decarbonization and clean power supply ambitions.

Adani Green Energy Limited has commissioned the world’s largest single-location Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project with a capacity of 3.37 GWh at Khavda, Gujarat. The milestone reinforces India’s growing leadership in large-scale energy storage deployment. The project is expected to enhance renewable integration, improve grid stability, and support round-the-clock clean power delivery from one of the world’s largest renewable energy parks.

The Jammu and Kashmir Energy Development Agency (JAKEDA) has allocated 45.75 MW rooftop solar projects across multiple government buildings under its larger 152.75 MW tender program. The initiative is expected to strengthen distributed renewable deployment in the region while reducing electricity expenses for public infrastructure. The projects also support India’s broader clean energy transition and rooftop solar adoption targets across institutional segments.

The Rajasthan Electricity Regulatory Commission (RERC) has approved transmission charges amounting to ₹3779.89 crore for Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Limited (RVPN) under its FY 2026-27 ARR and tariff order. The approval is expected to support transmission infrastructure modernization and grid expansion across the state. The decision comes amid rising renewable integration requirements and increasing electricity demand across Rajasthan’s energy sector.

Delhi witnessed a sharp rise in electricity demand amid intensifying heatwave conditions, placing significant pressure on the power distribution network. Clean energy sources, including solar power, played a crucial role in supporting stable electricity supply and reducing grid stress during peak demand periods. The development highlights the growing importance of renewable energy integration in ensuring urban energy resilience during extreme weather conditions.

The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) has approved a revised green power trading framework for the Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) under updated Renewable Consumption Obligation (RCO) rules. The framework is expected to improve renewable power market participation, transparency, and compliance mechanisms. It also supports India’s evolving green energy trading ecosystem while enabling greater flexibility for obligated entities in renewable energy procurement.

The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) has directed the National Load Despatch Centre (NLDC) to restore 1.19 lakh Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) to IPCL in a major renewable energy dispute. The ruling is expected to provide clarity on REC compliance and regulatory interpretation within India’s renewable energy market. The decision could also influence future REC-related proceedings and strengthen market confidence.

NLC India Limited and Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) have signed a joint venture Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on nuclear power projects in India. The partnership aims to strengthen the country’s low-carbon energy portfolio through enhanced nuclear power deployment. The move aligns with India’s long-term energy security strategy and efforts to diversify clean energy generation sources.

India’s solar manufacturing ecosystem received a boost as Alpex Solar fast-tracked development of its 2.2 GW TOPCon solar cell manufacturing facility. The expansion reflects increasing domestic investment in advanced solar technologies amid rising demand for high-efficiency modules. The facility is expected to strengthen India’s solar supply chain capabilities while supporting government initiatives aimed at reducing import dependency.

Insolation Energy Limited (INA Solar) reported a strong 59.34% increase in net profit for FY 2025-26, reflecting robust operational growth and rising demand across the solar sector. The company’s financial performance highlights continued momentum in India’s renewable energy industry driven by manufacturing expansion and project development activity. The results further underscore investor confidence in the clean energy market.

Navprakriti has signed an MoU with IIT Kharagpur to advance battery recycling research and skill development initiatives in India. The collaboration will focus on sustainable recycling technologies, circular economy practices, and workforce training for the growing battery and energy storage sector. The partnership highlights increasing industry-academia cooperation aimed at supporting India’s clean mobility and energy transition goals.
