UK green hydrogen firm Protium will jointly operate an already live 120-tonne-per-year landfill gas and solar-powered green hydrogen plant on England’s South Coast.
The company has entered into a partnership with renewables firm Canford Renewable Energy that will add 350kg per day of hydrogen capacity to its existing portfolio. No investment value attributed to the deal has been disclosed.
Based in Dorset, the South Coast Green Hydrogen facility has been operational since April 2025 and uses solar and biogas-generated electricity to power an electrolyser to produce hydrogen.
Protium said the new deal made more hydrogen available “effectively immediately,” with the company set to supply the gas to customers using its fleet of multi-element gas container (MEGC) trailers.
While specific use cases haven’t been named, Protium said hydrogen from the project would meet UK Renewable Transport Fuel Certificate requirements to allow fuel suppliers to prove emissions reduction.
It adds to the firm’s existing 170kg per week facility in South Wales, and its 2.5MW plant, which is currently under construction.
Protium also planned hydrogen projects from carbon capture firm Storegga, including the 15MW UK government-backed Cromarty green hydrogen project, and another 70MW green hydrogen project in Scotland.
