South Africa’s Manganese Metal Company (MMC) has signed a significant agreement with local energy provider NOA Group Ltd to secure 245 GWh of clean electricity annually, covering 70% of its power requirements with renewable energy.

The 20-year master energy supply agreement (MESA) will see MMC source power from NOA Group’s portfolio of wind and solar farms, with a combined capacity of 86 MW. The company emphasized that the electricity will come from multiple generation sites across South Africa, enhancing the reliability of renewable energy delivery.

The supply of electricity will be facilitated through Eskom’s wheeling framework, which allows for the transportation of electricity across the grid. MMC, known as the only non-Chinese producer of refined manganese metal, continues to focus on sustainable practices as part of its long-term energy strategy.
