Air Liquide Karabatan Tech Gases (ALKTG) will build two nitrogen production units to supply Kazakhstan-based petrochemicals firms Silleno’s planned polyethylene plant in Kazakhstan’s Atyrau region.
The facility will be located within the national industrial petrochemical technopark special economic zone in Kazakhstan’s Atyrau region, near ALKTG’s existing air separation unit (ASU), which currently supplies nitrogen to Kazakhstan Petrochemical Industries (KPI).
Expected to be operational by the end of 2028, the plants represent a €70m ($79.4m) investment.
This builds on ALKTG’s 2019 investment in the Karabatan basin and further expands its industrial presence in the region.
Émilie Mouren-Renouard, member of Air Liquide’s Executive Committee, supervising operations in Central Asia, said the investment aligns with the company’s strategy in the region.
“We are proud to strengthen our strategic alliance with KazMunayGas – our long-standing partner in the country and a key stakeholder in the Silleno project – to support the development of the country’s petrochemical sector.”
ALKTG is a Kazakhstan-based joint venture of Air Liquide, supplying industrial gases to local petrochemical and industrial customers in the Karabatan basin.
Air Liquide has been active in Kazakhstan since 2016.
