AIKO has been selected as the exclusive photovoltaic (PV) module supplier for Egypt’s Nefer Menya solar project, a 1.2 GWp utility-scale solar development being implemented by Infinity Power. The announcement was made during the Africa Energy Forum (AEF) in Cape Town.
The Nefer Menya project, located in Egypt’s Minya Governorate, is a key component of the country’s renewable energy strategy, which aims to generate 42% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030. The project is financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), highlighting its alignment with international climate finance standards and investment viability.
The solar complex will combine 1.2 GWp of photovoltaic capacity with a 600 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). Once commissioned, the facility is expected to supply electricity to approximately 1.4 million homes while avoiding nearly 1.6 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually. The project also supports Infinity Power’s long-term goal of operating 10 GW of renewable energy capacity across Africa by 2032.
Infinity Power selected AIKO’s All-Back-Contact (ABC) solar modules following an extensive technical and financial evaluation. The project site is situated in Egypt’s desert environment, where high temperatures, intense solar irradiance, and frequent sand exposure require solar modules capable of maintaining high performance under challenging operating conditions.
According to the company, AIKO’s ABC technology offers higher power density, reducing the total number of modules required for the project and lowering associated balance-of-system (BOS) costs, including mounting structures, cabling, and installation labour. These efficiencies are expected to reduce the project’s levelized cost of energy (LCOE), improve its internal rate of return (IRR), and help maintain planned capital expenditure while ensuring stable energy generation over the project’s 25-year operational life.
Commenting on the partnership, Omar Magdy, Senior Procurement Manager at Infinity Power, said the company evaluated technologies beyond conventional module specifications to address the site’s demanding environmental conditions. He noted that AIKO’s ABC technology demonstrated strong technical capabilities and offered confidence in delivering reliable, long-term electricity generation.
Justin Yuan, President of Overseas Sales at AIKO, said securing the Nefer Menya project reflects growing confidence in the company’s ABC technology and strengthens its presence in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. He added that the collaboration could create opportunities for future photovoltaic and energy storage projects across the region, particularly in desert environments requiring high-performance solar technologies.
The Nefer Menya contract further strengthens AIKO’s position in Africa’s utility-scale solar market while establishing a significant reference project for the deployment of All-Back-Contact technology in large-scale desert solar developments. Upon completion, the project is expected to contribute significantly to Egypt’s clean energy transition by expanding renewable electricity generation and reducing carbon emissions.
