EDPR NA Distributed Generation LLC (EDPR NA DG) has successfully completed and energized the Bristol I community solar project in Bristol, Maine. This 3.4 MWac project will enhance Maine’s energy resilience, strengthen the power grid, and encourage local participation in renewable energy. Bristol I is part of EDPR NA DG’s expanding community solar portfolio, which now includes more than 61 MWac of operational capacity across 32 projects in six states. Another 27 MWac of community solar projects are currently under construction.
The power generated from Bristol I will serve over 400 residential and small business customers in southern Maine who signed up through EDPR NA DG’s partner, PowerMarket. The project was developed in collaboration with local developer Midcoast Solar, while E&S Electric Company handled construction. Committed to supporting the local economy, EDPR NA DG engaged local businesses, contractors, and team members throughout the development process.
David Kane, EDPR NA DG’s Director of Development, stated “As a proud Mainer, I’m honored not only to have been part of the development team for Bristol I, but to be a customer of the project as well. Maine is among the leading states in the energy transition with more than 600 MW of solar now connected to the grid.”
Eliza Donoghue, Executive Director of the Maine Renewable Energy Association, mentioned “Maine is a leader in developing reliable, affordable, clean, and homegrown energy for its residents and its economy. Partners like EDPR NA Distributed Generation and community solar projects like Bristol I are what the state needs to continue to grow as it responsibly invests in its energy future and maintains grid reliability.”
Since 2023, Bristol I has contributed over $123,000 in tax payments to support essential community services, including schools, public safety, and road maintenance. The project also created more than 40 construction jobs, bringing economic benefits to local restaurants, hotels, and retailers. EDPR NA DG and its parent company, EDP Renewables North America LLC (EDPR NA), have been active in Maine for over 20 years, developing both utility-scale and distributed solar projects. With Bristol I now operational, the company continues to expand its presence in the state, with several more projects in the pipeline.
