Spanish renewable energy firm Greening group has launched a dedicated Twine platform to drive the biomethane development in Spain.
The platform aims to integrate every stage of biomethane project development within a single structure, enabling the complete management of each asset, from opportunity identification through to construction readiness and operation.
Pablo Otín, CEO of Greening, said the specialist platform will enable it to drive biomethane development and turn its “enormous potential into real projects”. Spain has 17 biomethane projects at an advanced stage of development.
Alongside optimising development timelines, the platform will mitigate project risks, and deliver “scalable assets that are fully prepared for execution”.
Spain has high biomethane production potential thanks to its abundant agricultural and livestock residues, agro-industrial by-products, and organic waste, as well as its well-established gas infrastructure capable of integrating renewable gas into the existing network.
European regulatory initiatives such as REPowerEU and the Renewable Energy Directive (RED III) identify biomethane as one of the priority technologies for advancing a cleaner energy model and reducing fossil fuel dependency.
Twine will work alongside livestock and agricultural producers, waste management companies, landowners, public administrations, industrial partners, and investors to develop projects tailored to the specific needs of each region.
Spain’s ambition to become one of Europe’s leading biomethane producers has gained fresh impetus after Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners recently approved investment in what is expected to become .
Energy firm Naturgy and renewables specialist ID Energy Group plan to develop as part of a major €500m deal announced last summer.
