Green Energy Shares Witness Sharp Volatility Amid Weak Market Sentiment (23 July 2026)

The Indian equity market ended lower on July 23, 2026, as investors remained cautious amid broad-based selling across several sectors. Both benchmark indices closed in the red, reflecting weak market sentiment during the trading session. The S&P BSE Sensex fell 0.48 percent to settle at 76,384.76, while the Nifty 50 declined 0.54 percent to close at 23,866.65. The renewable energy and power sector also witnessed mixed trading, with only a handful of stocks posting gains while several major companies ended with significant losses.

NTPC Green Energy Ltd. emerged as the strongest performer in the renewable energy space. The company’s shares climbed more than 6 percent during the session, closing at ₹97.02 on the BSE and ₹97.66 on the NSE. The strong rise made it one of the best-performing green energy stocks of the day despite the overall weakness in the market.

Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy Ltd. also managed to finish in positive territory. Its shares gained around 0.7 to 0.8 percent to close near ₹206.50, showing resilience even as most renewable energy stocks faced selling pressure. Kabra Extrusion was another notable gainer in the broader clean energy and electric mobility segment, rising about 3.4 percent during the session.

On the losing side, Adani Green Energy recorded the steepest decline among major renewable energy companies. Its shares dropped more than 6.2 percent, closing at ₹1,380.20 on the BSE and ₹1,380.90 on the NSE. Insolation Energy also witnessed heavy selling, falling around 3.7 percent to end near ₹113. Amara Raja Energy & Mobility declined by nearly 2.9 percent, while Borosil Renewables lost around 2.5 percent.

Several large-cap companies in the energy, infrastructure, and power sectors also traded lower. Reliance Industries slipped more than 1 percent to close at ₹1,272.40 on the NSE. Larsen & Toubro declined about 0.7 percent to ₹3,793.20. Other major companies, including Tata Power, JSW Energy, GAIL, and Exide Industries, also ended the day in negative territory, with losses ranging from around 0.5 percent to over 2 percent.

Renewable energy equipment and infrastructure companies such as Inox Wind, Indian Energy Exchange, Praj Industries, and Websol Energy also closed with modest losses. Although selective buying in NTPC Green Energy and Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy provided some positive momentum, widespread selling across most renewable and energy stocks kept the sector under pressure and reflected the cautious mood prevailing in the broader equity market.
