Indian equity markets ended the trading session on a strong note, supported by broad-based buying across major indices. The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex climbed 1.05% to close at 76,861.04, while the Nifty 50 gained 0.96% to settle at 23,996.75. The positive momentum reflected improved investor sentiment, although the green energy sector witnessed mixed stock-specific movements.
Among renewable and clean energy-related companies, Kabra Extrusion emerged as the biggest gainer of the day, rallying 7.9%. The sharp rise made it the standout performer in the sector as investors showed strong buying interest.
State-owned energy company GAIL also delivered a solid performance. Its shares advanced 2.47% on the BSE to close at ₹174.20 and gained 2.65% on the NSE to end at ₹174.52. The stock remained among the top performers in the energy segment during the session.
Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) also recorded healthy gains, with its shares rising nearly 1.9%. The stock settled at ₹126.60 on the BSE and ₹126.53 on the NSE. Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) followed with gains of more than 2.3%, closing around ₹141.80, supported by steady investor buying.
Wind turbine manufacturer Inox Wind also traded higher, gaining more than 1.6% to close at ₹78.21 on both exchanges. Other major companies in the green energy ecosystem also finished in positive territory. Tata Power added 0.85%, while engineering major Larsen & Toubro (L&T) rose 0.43%. Reliance Industries and Borosil Renewables posted marginal gains, reflecting stable investor confidence despite limited price movement.
On the other hand, several renewable energy and battery-related stocks ended the day in the red. Exide Industries was among the biggest losers, falling 3.28% on the BSE to ₹428.40 and declining 3.81% on the NSE to ₹426.10. NTPC Green Energy Ltd. also witnessed selling pressure, with its shares slipping nearly 2.8% on the BSE to ₹93.60 and more than 3.1% on the NSE to ₹93.28.
Praj Industries declined around 2.5% to close near ₹315. Other renewable energy companies, including JSW Energy, Olectra Greentech, and Websol Energy, also recorded modest losses of up to 0.7%. Meanwhile, Amara Raja Energy & Mobility and Insolation Energy remained largely unchanged, indicating cautious investor participation.
Overall, while the benchmark indices ended with strong gains, the green energy sector presented a mixed picture. Investors continued to focus on company-specific developments, resulting in varied performances across renewable energy, battery manufacturing, and clean technology stocks.
