Sineng Electric is supporting Zambia’s renewable energy development with its high-efficiency central inverters deployed at the 100 MW Maamba Solar PV Power Station in Southern Province. Commissioned on September 24, 2026, the project adds utility-scale solar generation capacity to Zambia’s national grid, contributing to energy diversification and strengthening the country’s long-term energy security.
Located in Maamba, Sinazongwe District, the project was constructed by Sinoma Energy Conservation Ltd., serving as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor. In July 2026, Jito Kayumba, Advisor to the President of Zambia, visited the project on behalf of President Hakainde Hichilema to inspect the final construction works and preparations for grid connection. He highlighted the project as an example of China–Zambia cooperation in advancing green energy development.
Equipped with Sineng Electric’s 3.3 MW and 4.4 MW central inverters, the facility is designed to harness Zambia’s abundant solar resources while supporting efficient and reliable electricity generation.
Designed for utility-scale photovoltaic applications, Sineng’s 3.3 MW and 4.4 MW central inverters combine high conversion efficiency with environmental adaptability. The inverters are capable of maintaining full rated output at ambient temperatures of up to 52°C, supporting reliable operation under demanding climatic conditions. With a maximum efficiency of 99.0%, the systems are designed to minimize conversion losses and optimize energy yield.
The inverters also incorporate Sineng’s patented potential-induced degradation (PID) mitigation technology, which helps reduce performance losses associated with PID in solar PV modules. This capability is particularly relevant during humid conditions, including Zambia’s rainy seasons, when the risk of PID can increase.
Together, these features are designed to support efficient system operation, minimize performance losses, and maintain long-term energy yield over the project’s 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) period.
Hydropower has traditionally dominated Zambia’s electricity generation mix, making the country vulnerable to fluctuations in rainfall and water availability. With electricity demand increasing, expanding solar power capacity has become an important part of efforts to diversify generation sources and strengthen grid resilience.
The Maamba Solar PV project is expected to generate more than 250,000 MWh of electricity annually, contributing additional renewable electricity to the national grid. The development also supports Zambia’s stated ambitions to expand solar power capacity to 1,000 MW in 2026 and reach a cumulative 10,000 MW by 2031.
By integrating utility-scale solar generation into the electricity system, projects such as Maamba can help reduce dependence on hydropower, improve energy supply diversification, and support the country’s transition towards a more resilient and lower-carbon power sector.
The Maamba Solar PV project further strengthens Sineng Electric’s presence in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) renewable energy market, where the company reports having secured projects totaling more than 18 GW.
Through its regional subsidiaries, local service centers, and warehouse facilities, Sineng has developed a service and operational network to support project implementation, equipment maintenance, and long-term customer requirements across the region.
Building on its experience in utility-scale solar applications, Sineng Electric continues to collaborate with project developers, EPC contractors, and industry partners to support the deployment of efficient and reliable solar power infrastructure across Africa.
