The Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment at the University of Oxford, in collaboration with the independent think tank Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW), is launching a unique online course, ‘Reaching Net Zero.’ Hosted by Apolitical, this self-paced certificate program is tailored for India and started on 13 February 2025. It is designed for policymakers, public-sector executives, CSR teams, sustainability officers, and decision-makers in banking, corporate, and public sectors, aiming to enhance their understanding of net zero and its connection to their work, alongside academia and training institutions.

India’s net zero policy is set to reshape industries, create green jobs, and drive sustainable investment while enhancing energy security and climate resilience. The ‘Reaching Net Zero for India’ course provides a thorough understanding of net zero targets, equipping policymakers and industry leaders with the insights and tools needed to navigate climate and sustainability challenges effectively.

As India’s green economy transition accelerates, it presents vast opportunities for jobs, growth, and sustainability. Developed by the Smith School and CEEW, the course covers key aspects such as net zero science, climate politics, and policy implications for India’s economic development, energy security, job creation, and investment risks. Participants will engage with policies designed to achieve net zero and explore its scientific foundations, gaining practical knowledge for application in their respective domains.

Dr. Arunabha Ghosh, CEO, CEEW, emphasized that climate is now central to the economy, with net zero impacting governance, finance, and businesses.

Dr. Radhika Khosla, Oxford Smith School, highlighted India’s vulnerability to climate change and the course’s role in equipping policymakers with scientific insights for sustainable development and decarbonization.

The course brings together leading experts from the Smith School and CEEW, including Dr Radhika Khosla, Director of the Oxford India Centre for Sustainable Development, Dr Anupama Sen, Head of Policy Engagement at the Smith School, and Ranjita Rajan, Business Fellow at the Smith School, alongside CEEW experts such as Dr Vaibhav Chaturvedi, Senior Fellow specializing in low-carbon economies and carbon markets.
