The Indian stock market remained largely range-bound on August 21, 2026, with benchmark indices showing little movement. The S&P BSE SENSEX remained steady at 77,540.83 points, while the NIFTY 50 edged up marginally by 0.01% to 24,234.75 points. Against this subdued broader market backdrop, stocks across the green energy and power sectors recorded mixed performances.
Kabra Extrusion emerged as one of the strongest gainers among green energy stocks. The company’s shares rose 5.54% on the BSE to Rs 558.00 and gained 7.15% on the NSE to Rs 566.95. Olectra Greentech also attracted investor interest, advancing 1.71% on the BSE to Rs 1,314.00 and 1.70% on the NSE to Rs 1,313.10.
Adani Green Energy gained 1.38% on the BSE to Rs 1,316.00 and 0.94% on the NSE to Rs 1,314.00. Insolation Energy and JSW Energy also closed higher, recording gains of more than half a percent on both exchanges.
However, several companies faced selling pressure. Praj Industries recorded the sharpest decline among the tracked green energy stocks, falling 3.95% on the BSE to Rs 344.20 and 3.75% on the NSE to Rs 345.00. Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy declined 1.96% on the BSE to Rs 192.90.
Battery and energy storage-related stocks also remained under pressure. Exide Industries fell 1.52% on the BSE to Rs 457.00, while Amara Raja Energy & Mobility declined more than 1% on both exchanges to around Rs 920.50. NTPC Green Energy slipped 0.33% to Rs 91.55 on the BSE.
Among major market participants, Reliance Industries remained flat at Rs 1,314.00 on both exchanges. Larsen & Toubro gained 0.39% on the BSE to Rs 4,088.05, while Indian Oil Corporation and GAIL recorded minimal changes.
Overall, trading in the green energy segment reflected stock-specific investor activity, with gains in EV and solar-related companies offset by weakness in biofuel, renewable equipment, and energy storage stocks.
