Shumbasolve Launches 6.35 MW Solar Project At South Africa’s Highveld Industrial Park

Shumbasolve has officially launched a 6.35 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) project at Highveld Industrial Park in eMalahleni, Mpumalanga province, South Africa. The project marks another step towards expanding renewable energy generation in the country’s industrial sector and supporting the transition from traditional electricity sources to cleaner energy alternatives.

The solar installation is located in Mpumalanga, a province historically recognised as the centre of South Africa’s coal-based electricity generation. The region hosts several major industrial facilities and coal-fired power stations. However, increasing electricity costs, concerns over grid reliability, and growing pressure to reduce carbon emissions are encouraging businesses to explore alternative energy solutions.

Shumbasolve’s 6.35 MW solar project reflects the growing adoption of commercial and industrial (C&I) solar power across South Africa. By developing renewable energy facilities close to industrial consumption centres, businesses can access locally generated electricity and reduce their dependence on conventional power supply. The project is expected to support industrial operations at Highveld Industrial Park by providing access to clean solar energy.

The development also highlights the increasing role of private-sector investment in South Africa’s renewable energy market. Industrial companies are gradually adopting solar power systems to manage electricity expenses, improve energy security, and meet their sustainability objectives. Distributed solar generation is becoming an important option for businesses seeking greater control over their energy requirements amid ongoing challenges in the country’s electricity sector.

South Africa has been experiencing a gradual shift in its energy mix as the government and private companies work to increase renewable energy capacity. Solar photovoltaic technology is playing an important role in this transition because of its ability to provide electricity at industrial scale while reducing reliance on fossil fuels. Commercial and industrial facilities are emerging as important markets for solar developers, particularly in regions with significant industrial demand.

Mpumalanga’s transition towards renewable energy is particularly significant because of its historical dependence on coal mining and coal-fired power generation. The development of solar projects in the province demonstrates how industrial regions can gradually diversify their energy sources while supporting broader decarbonisation objectives.

Shumbasolve’s newly launched 6.35 MW facility adds to this growing movement and highlights the potential for distributed renewable energy projects to support industrial development. Such installations can contribute to improved energy resilience, lower operational costs, and reduced environmental impacts.

As South Africa continues to transform its electricity sector, commercial and industrial solar developments are expected to remain an important part of the country’s clean energy expansion.
