Radiance Solar and SolAmerica Energy are pleased to announce the launch of the Stephenson S1 Solar Project, a 2.86-megawatt (MW) community solar project located in Freeport, Illinois. This project marks the beginning of a new partnership between the two companies and underscores their shared commitment to expanding renewable energy access in Illinois. It will be Radiance Solar’s 26th community solar project in the state, further establishing the company’s leadership in the community solar sector.

The Stephenson S1 Project will utilize American-made solar panels from First Solar, ensuring the production of clean and reliable energy for the local power grid. This initiative supports Illinois’ transition toward a more sustainable energy future, aligning with both state and national clean energy objectives. By harnessing solar energy on a larger scale, the project contributes to environmental sustainability while providing economic benefits to the Freeport community.

Steve Newby, CEO of Radiance Solar, said “We are excited to partner with SolAmerica on this milestone project. The Stephenson Solar Project is not just another installation—it represents a long-term commitment to delivering high-quality, impactful solar solutions in Illinois. Having completed over 20 solar projects in the state, we are dedicated to expanding distributed energy infrastructure and supporting local energy resilience.”

Tully Blalock, CEO of SolAmerica, mentioned, “We are excited to work with Radiance Solar on the Stephenson Project, which we expect to be the start of a productive, on-going collaboration. As a community solar asset, this project will allow homes and businesses across Northern Illinois to receive the benefits of clean and low-cost solar power while bringing economic benefits to Stephenson County.”

The project is expected to generate 4,155 megawatt-hours of electricity annually, which is equivalent to removing 463 cars from the road or supplying power to approximately 234 homes each year. Radiance Solar and SolAmerica Energy remain dedicated to developing and implementing renewable energy projects that drive progress toward a cleaner, more sustainable future.
