Xodus joins Japan’s first large-scale CCS project

UK-headquartered global energy consultancy Xodus will design pipeline and cable geotechnical surveys for one of Japan’s first large-scale carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects, Offshore Western Kyushu CCS. The project is designed to cut industrial carbon emissions as part of Japan’s broader decarbonisation strategy.

“We are proud to play a part in the delivery of this pioneering CCS initiative,” said Simon Allison, Vice-President for Asia Pacific at Xodus.

The company will work alongside a consortium that includes West Japan Carbon Dioxide Storage Survey (WEST), ENEOS Corporation, J-Power, and ENEOS Xplora. The project is one of nine selected under Japan’s Advanced CCS Projects programme, supported by the Japan Organisation for Metals and Energy Security (JOGMEC), a government agency overseeing CCS development.

Xodus has been active in Japan’s energy sector for years and recently established a full-time presence in the country to expand its CCS and renewable energy work.
