NTPC Group Signs MoUs With Madhya Pradesh Government At Global Investors Summit 2024, Announces Rs 2 Lakh Crore Investment In The State

NTPC Limited, India’s largest integrated energy company, along with its subsidiary NTPC Green Energy Ltd. (NGEL), has signed multiple Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the Government of Madhya Pradesh during the Global Investors Summit, held in Bhopal on February 24-25, 2025. These agreements aim to develop renewable energy projects based on solar, wind, pumped hydro, and other carbon-neutral energy sources in the state, reinforcing India’s commitment to clean energy and sustainable development.

The first MoU was signed between NTPC Green Energy Ltd. (NGEL) and Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Company Limited (MPPGCL) for the establishment of renewable energy projects with a capacity of up to 20 GW or more in the state. The estimated investment for these projects is approximately ₹1,20,000 crore. This agreement will facilitate the formation of a Joint Venture Company (JVC), which will play a crucial role in fulfilling the Renewable Generation Obligation (RGO) of Madhya Pradesh Generating Company and the Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) of Madhya Pradesh’s power distribution companies (DISCOMs). The initiative is expected to significantly contribute to the state’s renewable energy infrastructure and help meet its clean energy targets.

The second MoU was signed between NTPC Limited and the Government of Madhya Pradesh for the development of other sustainable power projects based on non-fossil fuel sources. This agreement, signed on behalf of the state government by Madhya Pradesh Power Management Company Limited (MPPMCL), entails an estimated investment of ₹80,000 crore. The projects under this MoU will further enhance the state’s transition towards sustainable energy solutions.

Additionally, an agreement was signed between the Government of Madhya Pradesh and NTPC for setting up an 800 MW Pumped Hydro Storage Project in the state, with an investment of approximately ₹4,000 crore. This project is expected to play a key role in balancing renewable energy generation and ensuring grid stability by providing energy storage solutions.

The MoUs were signed in the presence of Dr. Mohan Yadav, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, and Shri Gurdeep Singh, Chairman and Managing Director of NTPC Ltd., along with other senior officials from the Government of Madhya Pradesh and NTPC. These agreements mark a significant milestone in India’s clean energy transition, supporting the country’s efforts toward achieving its Net Zero targets and reinforcing its position as a global leader in renewable energy adoption.

NTPC Limited is India’s largest integrated power utility, catering to nearly one-fourth of the country’s electricity needs. The company currently has an installed capacity of over 77 GW, with an additional 29.5 GW under construction, including 9.6 GW of renewable energy capacity. NTPC is actively working towards its target of achieving 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032.

With a diversified portfolio comprising thermal, hydro, solar, and wind power plants, NTPC remains committed to delivering reliable, affordable, and sustainable electricity to the nation. The company continues to adopt best practices, foster innovation, and implement clean energy technologies to drive India’s green energy revolution and contribute to a more sustainable future.
