AWS and GE Vernova Partner to Drive Cloud Migration, Digital Innovation, and Sustainability Initiatives

GE Vernova Inc. and Amazon Web Services, Inc., a subsidiary of Amazon.com, Inc., have signed a strategic framework agreement (SFA) to support AWS’s data center expansion and work together on addressing rising global energy demand, improving grid security and reliability, and decarbonizing electric power systems.

Pablo Koziner, Chief Commercial Officer, GE Vernova said, “We are excited to work in collaboration with AWS as they advance their computing capabilities and data center capacity. We believe that GE Vernova is well positioned through its broad portfolio of energy products and services to help AWS obtain reliable, cost effective, and more sustainable electricity for its data centers in support of their growth objectives. We appreciate the opportunity to work strategically with a company that embraces innovative solutions and values strong collaboration.”

In this new collaboration, AWS will provide GE Vernova with cloud services to support its cloud migration and digital innovation initiatives, including the use of generative AI. AWS’s advanced capabilities will assist GE Vernova in its ongoing transformation as a standalone, public company, improving systems and processes while further integrating sustainability and innovation into its core operations. This expanded partnership will introduce new technologies and cloud services, such as AWS High Performance Computing (HPC), enabling GE Vernova to accelerate development cycles and optimize operations for advanced digital technology solutions through enhanced computational power and cloud scalability. AWS and GE Vernova will also collaborate to identify opportunities that accelerate GE Vernova’s operational goals, utilizing AWS technologies in artificial intelligence, big data, and data analytics.

Additionally, AWS will continue to work with GE Vernova’s Electrification Software business to support AWS Cloud deployments of software for the electric grid, power generation, and manufacturing industries.

Through this partnership, GE Vernova will offer AWS a range of solutions aimed at electrifying and decarbonizing data centers across North America, Europe, and Asia, including:

  • Electrification Systems: GE Vernova will continue providing AWS with turnkey substation solutions to connect AWS data centers to the grid, including the expansion of key electrical equipment, project management, and construction support across multiple global sites. The engineering teams of AWS and GE Vernova will collaborate to optimize the design and delivery of data center substations.
  • Renewables: GE Vernova will work with AWS to advance the commercialization of onshore wind development projects.
  • Power Generation, Innovation, and Services: GE Vernova and AWS will explore opportunities for GE Vernova to supply power generation equipment and services to AWS. They will also collaborate with GE Vernova’s accelerator businesses—Advanced Research, Consulting Services, and Financial Services—to promote energy transition innovation, research, project development, and financing.

“Through this expanded collaboration with GE Vernova, we’ll be able to accelerate data and energy efficiencies, driving reliable and more sustainable operations,” said Howard Gefen, general manager, energy & utilities, AWS. “Our shared goals of addressing increased global energy demand, advancing grid security, and decarbonizing electric power systems will help our customers across the globe.”
