China’s First Offshore Pile-Based PV-Fishery Project Powered by Huasun HJT Modules Nears Grid Connection in April 2025

China’s first offshore pile-based PV-fishery project, the Jimo offshore PV project, developed by PowerChina New Energy Group, is a pioneering initiative that seamlessly integrates solar power with aquaculture. Recently featured by China’s key governmental media agencies including People’s Daily, Xinhua News, and Shandong TV, the project adopts a “solar + fisheries” model to maximize marine resource efficiency. As the key module supplier, Huasun Energy is delivering 814.9 MW of high-efficiency V-Ocean heterojunction (HJT) solar modules for this innovative development.

Located near Aoshan Bay in Jimo District, Qingdao Province, eastern China, the project has a planned capacity of 1.15 GW, to be developed in two phases: 600 MW in Phase 1 and 550 MW in Phase 2. Once fully operational, the PV system is expected to generate an average annual power output of 1.92 billion kWh, reducing 1.7 million tons of CO₂ emissions and generating an estimated USD 100 million in annual revenue, said the project investor, developer and EPC. The integrated aquaculture system will further enhance local fisheries by supporting a multi-trophic ecological farming model, promoting sustainable seafood production.

The onshore booster station is nearly complete, and the first batch of Huasun’s V-Ocean HJT solar modules is in the final installation phase. The project is set to connect to the grid by April 2025, supplying 1.07 billion kWh of clean electricity annually, saving 327,000 tons of standard coal, and cutting 871,000 tons of CO₂ emissions—a significant contribution to China’s carbon neutrality goals.

Huasun’s V-Ocean HJT solar modules are designed for harsh marine environments, offering high resistance to humidity, salt spray, and mechanical stress for long-term reliability and performance. Their composite membrane frame, butyl adhesive edge seal, and coated double-glass prevent moisture ingress, ensuring enhanced durability and stable performance in offshore conditions.

Certified by TÜV SÜD, these modules passed 14,400 vibration tests without micro-cracks and excelled in 12× IEC dynamic load tests and 6000Pa/3000Pa static load tests, maintaining a power degradation rate below 0.5%. These results establish Huasun’s HJT modules as the ideal choice for offshore PV projects, setting a new standard for renewable energy innovation in marine environment.

Beyond advancing offshore PV technology, the Jimo offshore PV project sets a scalable benchmark for future offshore renewable energy developments. By overcoming the challenges of offshore deployment, it demonstrates the viability of floating solar systems, enhances energy security, and promotes sustainable marine economies.
