Enphase Energy Supports Brazil’s New Rapid Shutdown Standard For Safer Solar Installations

Energy, Inc., a global energy technology company and the leading supplier of micro inverter-based solar and battery systems, welcomes Brazil’s new fire safety standard, ABNT NBR 17193. This new regulation introduces stricter safety measures for solar installations in all buildings, including the requirement for rapid shutdown functionality. The new standard focuses on reducing fire risks linked to high-voltage direct current (DC) energy used in traditional solar systems with centralized “string” inverters.

The low-voltage AC design not only simplifies the installation process but also significantly reduces fire risks to help protect homeowners and emergency response teams.”

Enphase’s micro inverter technology offers a safer alternative by converting low-voltage DC from solar panels into low-voltage alternating current (AC) directly at the panel. This design removes the need for high-voltage DC, making solar installations safer for both homes and businesses. Additionally, every Enphase microinverter includes rapid shutdown functionality — a crucial safety feature that lets the system power down immediately during emergencies. The new regulation recommends that all solar installations in Brazil have this capability before connecting to the grid.
