JJ-LAPP and Tonking New Energy Sign MoU to Promote Floating Solar Development In ASEAN

J-LAPP and Tonking New Energy Sign MoU to Advance Floating Solar Development Across ASEAN

On Wednesday, 9 April 2025, JJ-LAPP and Tonking New Energy signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the development of floating solar projects across ASEAN countries. The signing ceremony took place during the Solar & Storage Live Malaysia 2025 exhibition, held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The partnership marks a shared commitment to advancing floating solar technology and driving renewable energy innovation and sustainability in the region. The MoU will position both companies to deliver comprehensive floater solutions tailored for floating solar projects in ASEAN.

Floating solar, which involves installing photovoltaic panels on reservoirs, lakes, and other water bodies, offers dual benefits: it conserves land and enhances energy efficiency through the natural cooling effect of water. The collaboration will leverage Tonking’s expertise in cutting-edge comprehensive floating solar solutions and JJ-LAPP’s strong track record in supporting renewable energy projects.

“This MoU marks a pivotal step in our mission to expand renewable energy access in high-potential markets. ASEAN’s abundant water resources and commitment to sustainability make it an ideal region for floating solar applications. Partnering with Tonking New Energy allows us to combine technical excellence with localized expertise to deliver transformative projects,” said Mr. John Hng, Regional Director – Renewable Energy of JJ-LAPP.

Mr. Mervyn Zhu, Managing Director of Tonking New Energy, added, “We are excited to collaborate with JJ-LAPP on this groundbreaking initiative. Floating solar represents a strategic opportunity to address energy security and environmental challenges simultaneously. Together, we aim to set new benchmarks for clean energy adoption while supporting the economic and ecological goals of ASEAN communities.”
