Sunsure Energy, a leading independent power producer, has signed a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with JSL Super Steel, a subsidiary of Jindal Stainless Limited based in Ghaziabad. Jindal Stainless is recognized as India’s largest manufacturer of stainless steel. Under this agreement, JSL Super Steel will source 11 MWp of solar power from Sunsure Energy’s 49 MWp solar project located in Augasi, Uttar Pradesh.

This move is expected to replace nearly 40% of JSL Super Steel’s conventional energy consumption with renewable energy. The initiative is also aligned with the Uttar Pradesh State Power Banking Policy, which aims to enhance energy security and promote efficient power management across the state.

Through this partnership, JSL Super Steel will receive approximately 16.5 million units (MUs) of clean energy each year. The use of solar power is estimated to help the company reduce its carbon emissions by about 12 million kilograms annually, which is equivalent to the environmental benefit of planting over 5.45 lakh trees. This agreement supports India’s broader efforts to encourage green steel production, a major industry-wide shift towards lowering emissions in one of the country’s most energy-intensive sectors.

Mr. Jagmohan Sood, Wholetime Director and Chief Operating Officer, Jindal Stainless, said in a statement, “JSL Super Steel is delighted to partner with Sunsure Energy as another step in Jindal Stainless’ efforts to green our operations and achieve our Net Zero targets. This partnership is also a part of Jindal Stainless’ short-term goal of reducing 50% carbon emissions by 2035. By integrating renewable energy into our production processes, we are not only reducing our carbon footprint but also setting new benchmarks for the metal industry in India. As leaders in the stainless steel industry, we deem it our responsibility to usher in cleaner routes of production such as introduction of green hydrogen, use of biofuels, increasing renewable energy share from the grid, etc. at every step of the value chain.”

Shashank Sharma, Founder, Chairman and CEO, Sunsure Energy while speaking at the signing ceremony, stated, “As industries align with India’s ambitious renewable energy targets, collaborations like this set a powerful precedent for responsible growth. Through this agreement, Jindal Stainless is leading the way for the metal industry in Uttar Pradesh by sourcing power from renewable sources—demonstrating that clean energy is not just an option, but the future of industrial progress. Jindal Stainless has a strong reputation for pioneering sustainability initiatives, and we are proud to welcome them into our growing family of esteemed customers.

Jindal Stainless has demonstrated a consistent commitment to sustainability. Over the last three financial years, the company has successfully reduced more than 3.1 lakh tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions. Looking ahead, Jindal Stainless has set an ambitious target of achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050. The company has also taken significant steps towards greener manufacturing by becoming the first in India to launch a Green Hydrogen Plant specifically for stainless steel production. In addition, Jindal Stainless plans to invest INR 700 crore over the next five years in various decarbonization initiatives to further strengthen its environmental responsibility.

Sunsure Energy continues to expand its impact by providing renewable energy solutions to over 70 industrial companies across more than 16 states in India, including several multinational corporations. This agreement with JSL Super Steel marks another important step in Sunsure Energy’s mission to accelerate the adoption of clean energy across India’s commercial and industrial sectors.
