GridStor Appoints Daniel Dedrick As Chief Technology Officer In Newly Created Position To Fuel Expansion

GridStor, a developer and operator of utility-scale battery energy storage systems, has announced the appointment of Daniel Dedrick as its new Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Dedrick brings over 20 years of experience in power system engineering, technology development, and project development across various energy technologies. He joined GridStor in 2022 and most recently served as the company’s Senior Vice President of Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) and Technical Operations.

In his new role as CTO, Dedrick will continue reporting to Taylor and will be responsible for shaping and leading the company’s technology strategy in line with its broader business objectives. He will oversee technical operations related to GridStor’s rapidly expanding portfolio of battery energy storage systems, covering areas such as transmission and interconnection, EPC, project operations, and asset management.

As part of the leadership changes, Tony Song, who is currently the Vice President of EPC at GridStor, will be promoted to Senior Vice President of EPC. In this expanded role, he will oversee the company’s project construction activities in addition to his existing responsibilities for project engineering and technology selection.

Chris Taylor, CEO of GridStor, said in a statement, “Daniel is one of the best technical strategists in the U.S. energy storage industry today. Success in battery storage depends on a breadth of capabilities–skillfully navigating procurement and interconnection processes, managing project construction, and optimizing industrial systems. Daniel’s expanded role on our leadership team reflects GridStor’s increasing focus on converting our growing project pipeline into a competitive set of operating assets.”

Dedrick further states, “I look forward to taking GridStor’s technical work to the next stage as we transition to building and operating battery storage facilities in multiple regions. Now more than ever it takes a lot of experience to manage the uncertainties of large power project construction and operations. With GridStor’s strong financial backing, best-in-class procurement platform, and seasoned team, I’m confident in our ability to deliver timely, cost-effective battery storage facilities to load-serving entities and data center customers.”

Before joining GridStor, Dedrick led the EPC services and major equipment team at Clearway Energy Group, where he managed projects that included more than 3 GWh of energy storage facilities and 2 GW of solar power projects. He holds a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.
