US-based Argent LNG has received approval from the US Department of Energy (DOE) to export up to 25 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of domestically produced LNG.
Argent LNG is a 25 mtpa is a planned $10bn LNG export facility at Port Fourchon, Louisiana. Construction is expected to begin in 2027 and will be executed in phases. Commercial operations are targeted for 2030.
The DOE approval for LNG export will last for 20 years, starting from the date of first commercial export from the project.
Under terms of the deal, Argent LNG will be able to export LNG by vessel from the site to all countries with which the US has a free trade agreement.
Jonathan Bass, Chairman and CEO of Argent LNG, said the news represents federal order, instead of a development story.
Global energy company Baker Hughes signed an 2025 for Argent LNG, through which will supply power generation equipment and gas compression systems for the facility.
News of the approval follows Argent LNG signing a with Ukraine’s Naftogaz Group to export LNG to Ukraine and other areas of Europe.
At the time, Bass said the partnership aims to build a long-term relationship rather than one-off shipments.
