Energy technology company Baker Hughes will supply centrifugal compression equipment for the Blue Point Number One ammonia project in Louisiana that will produce around 1.4 million tonnes per annum of low-carbon ammonia.
Baker Hughes will provide compressors for ammonia, syngas, recycle gas, and carbon dioxide, along with carbon capture and storage technology and a steam turbine–driven generator.
The technology will support ammonia production using an autothermal reforming process and capture up to 2.3 million metric tonnes of CO2 each year. The captured CO2 will be stored in Class VI wells.
Alessandro Bresciani, Senior Vice-President of Energy Equipment at Baker Hughes, said ammonia is set to become a key low-carbon fuel driving global sustainable energy.
