Chaberton Energy Appoints Reason Abajuo As Chief Legal Officer, Highlighting Strategic Leadership And Business Impact

Chaberton Energy has announced the promotion of Reason Abajuo to the role of Chief Legal Officer (CLO), a development that highlights both his personal career growth and the company’s continued strategic expansion. With this promotion, Abajuo became the first person to hold the CLO position at Chaberton, signaling the growing importance of legal leadership in supporting the company’s business operations and long-term goals.

Abajuo joined Chaberton Energy in October 2021. Since then, he has significantly expanded the company’s legal capabilities, transforming what was initially a one-person legal function into a vital part of the organization. Under his leadership, the legal team has played a key role in managing complex transactions, reducing business risks, and helping the company make confident, forward-looking decisions. These efforts have been instrumental in enabling Chaberton Energy’s continued growth and success in the energy sector.

Mike Doniger, president, Chaberton Energy, stated, “Reason’s ability to balance legal precision with business acumen has made him an invaluable partner to our entire organization. His expanded role as CLO reflects the critical importance of his counsel in our continued success and our commitment to building distributed energy solutions.”

Abajuo stated, “I’m honored to take on this expanded role and look forward to continuing to support Chaberton Energy’s mission while ensuring we maintain the highest standards of legal and corporate governance. It is an honor to help lead the team in building sustainable and resilient communities, one energy project at a time.”

He brings with him a strong background in energy law and corporate governance. Before joining Chaberton, he worked at The African Development Bank’s Legal Support Facility, where he served as legal counsel for power sector projects. In that role, he managed over $10 million in technical assistance grants and loans for energy projects across various African countries. His previous experience also includes legal roles in renewable energy companies as well as boutique and international law firms that specialize in energy.

Abajuo holds a Master of Laws degree from Harvard Law School and graduated with First Class honors with a Bachelor of Laws from Abia State University in Nigeria. He is licensed to practice law in both Nigeria and New York State and has also earned certifications in financial modeling and valuation analysis, equipping him with a well-rounded skill set for both legal and strategic business decision-making.
