Empowering Citizens: How PM Suryaghar And PM KUSUM Are Driving India’s Renewable Revolution

Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Shri Pralhad Joshi, highlighted the transformative impact of the PM Suryaghar-Muft Bijli Yojana, emphasizing its role in empowering citizens to become energy producers and earn additional income by selling electricity to distribution companies. Speaking to 750 Special Guests invited by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy to witness the Republic Day Parade in New Delhi, the Minister shared the government’s vision for renewable energy as a people-centric movement.

The Minister acknowledged the beneficiaries of PM Suryaghar and PM Kusum as key contributors to India’s renewable energy revolution. He stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, ordinary citizens have become the driving force behind this transition. Their dedication and success were celebrated as examples of the nation’s potential to achieve sustainable energy goals.

Beneficiaries expressed their satisfaction with the timely subsidies provided through the schemes and the ease of registration on the PM Suryaghar portal, which operates without human intervention. Many highlighted the significant savings achieved through solar installations, resulting in zero electricity bills. The Minister shared a success story from Dharwad, Karnataka, where a beneficiary utilized a ₹78,000 government subsidy to adopt solar power, effectively eliminating electricity expenses. This, he noted, demonstrates the Prime Minister’s commitment to sustainable and energy-efficient solutions.

Another beneficiary, Rakesh Rohi from Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, described the positive impact of the PM Kusum scheme. He installed solar pumps on his farm, leading to increased agricultural productivity. Stories like this underline the scheme’s success in improving livelihoods and fostering renewable energy adoption in rural areas.

The Special Guests also had the opportunity to visit the PM Sangrahalaya and engage with officials from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. Secretary MNRE, Ms. Nidhi Khare, expressed the Ministry’s commitment to learning from beneficiaries to enhance scheme implementation. MNRE Joint Secretary Shri Lalit Bohra and other senior officials attended the event, reinforcing the government’s focus on collaboration and innovation in advancing India’s renewable energy ambitions.
